From Manila, and on the ridge

Details

Getting there, the shuttle, the weather in January, what to wear on grass and gravel, and what happens if it rains.

Two old stone piers draped in faded rose bougainvillea and an open iron gate; on the gravel forecourt, a wooden table with glass jugs of pale calamansi juice, and an avenue of trees beyond.

Getting there

About two hours from Manila

By car, south on the expressway and up the ridge road into Tagaytay: about two hours, more on a Saturday afternoon, so leave by noon. Hardin Amihan is invented, so there is no pin to drop here. On a real site, this is where the map link goes.

The gate opens at 2:45, with a cold glass of calamansi at the welcome table. Please be seated on the Lawn by 3:20: the walk up the avenue takes about two minutes.

The shuttle, and parking

Leave the car in town

A shuttle runs from a meeting point in Tagaytay town at 2:00 and 2:20, and drops you at the gate. It goes back after the send-off, the last one at 10:00. If you drive, park on the grass in the field inside the boundary trees; a path from its west corner leads round to the gate.

The meeting point is a placeholder: [PLACEHOLDER: the meeting point in town].

The weather

Cool, dry, and cold after dark

January is the coolest, driest month on the ridge. Expect a soft, bright afternoon in the low twenties at the ceremony, and the high teens once the sun is down at about 5:45, on the walk to the Glasshouse.

What to wear

Garden formal

  • Shoes for grass and gravel. Block heels, wedges or flats: stilettos sink into the Lawn.
  • A wrap or a light jacket for the evening. The Glasshouse doors stay open to the garden.
  • Sage, cream, soft greens and faded rose sit beautifully in the garden. Please leave ivory and white to Bea.

Check your colour

The Lawn set for the ceremony: rows of plain wooden chairs on the grass, an aisle strewn with white petals leading to an arch of branches, cosmos and fern under a huge old tree.

If it rains

The day moves under glass

The ceremony moves under the Glasshouse veranda and the cocktails into the Orangery beside it; dinner is in the Glasshouse either way. Bea and Enzo decide by noon, and the day page and the cover say which plan is on.

Getting about

Every place without steps

The avenue, the Lawn and the paths are level gravel and grass. The Terrace has steps from the Lawn, and a ramp at its east end; the day page draws the step-free way wherever there is one. Restrooms are inside the gate on the left, and in the pavilion beside the Glasshouse.

Staying nearby

Make a weekend of it

Tagaytay has hotels and bed-and-breakfasts all along the ridge, and a Sunday morning there is worth staying for. Bea and Enzo’s suggestions: [PLACEHOLDER: two or three places to stay].
