Your own address: why your wedding website should be yournames.com

The short answer

An address like andreaandpaolo.com is easy to say out loud, easy to type, looks right on the invitation, and belongs to you. A long link with a platform's name in it is harder to remember and looks borrowed. Choose a short version of your names, check it reads clearly, and have it set up for you.

An address gets said out loud

Your guests will hear the address before they see it: from your mother on the phone, from a cousin at a party. "Andrea and Paolo dot com" survives being said out loud. A link with slashes, a platform's name and a string of letters does not.

It looks like part of the invitation

Everything else on the invitation has been chosen with care: the paper, the type, the wording. A borrowed address sits awkwardly at the bottom of the card. Your own names, in the same type as the rest, reads like it belongs there.

It belongs to you

A free page lives on someone else's platform, under their terms and their branding, for as long as they choose to keep it. An address you own stays yours, so the site can become your keepsake after the wedding at the same address you printed.

Choosing the name

  • Keep it short. First names are usually enough.
  • Read it as one word. Names run together without spaces, so check it can't be misread.
  • Pick one order and keep it. If the invitation says "Andrea and Paolo", the address should too.
  • Use "and", not "&". The ampersand can't be used in an address.
  • Avoid hyphens and numbers unless the plain version is taken.

The parts nobody should have to manage

Behind an address sit a few technical chores: registering it, renewing it, pointing it at the site, and keeping it secure. None of that should be your job in the months before a wedding. When we build a site, the address is set up for you, and there's nothing for you to log into or renew.
