Our Story
Their story began long before either of them imagined it would lead to this day.
In 2021, during a mini camp at Makilas SDA Church, their paths crossed for the very first time. She was serving as a counselor during the Heaven or Hell activity, while he was simply a visitor who happened to join that Sabbath afternoon. When it was time for the counselors' group sessions, he chose to be part of her unit.
Years later, after they had become sweethearts, he would confess that he was captivated by the sight of a young woman confidently leading a Bible study. He admired her dedication to God, and, as he would jokingly admit, he was captivated by her charms as well.
Her first impression, however, was quite different. To her, he seemed like a gatecrasher and a "wanna-be" trying to join where he did not belong. Looking back now, it remains one of the funniest parts of their story.
Neither of them knew then that God was already writing a much greater story.
In 2022, they met again at university. Both became active members of MAS AMiCUS and were proudly part of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department — known among themselves as "bayaws." He served as president of MAS AMiCUS and vice president of their department organization, while she was simply a new member finding her place among the group.
What began as friendship gradually developed into something deeper. As the years passed, they shared countless experiences together — moments of joy, challenges, prayers, and growth. Through their involvement in ministry and service, they came to know each other not only as friends but as fellow laborers in God's work.
One of the things that drew her heart toward him was his selfless character. She witnessed how deeply he cared for the people entrusted to him. As a leader in AMiCUS, he often placed the needs of others before his own. She remembers one particular moment that still makes her smile — seeing him wear two different slippers, one blue and one red. He did not mind how he looked, as long as he could continue serving and giving his best to his members.
He may not have possessed much materially, but he was rich in heart. In his willingness to sacrifice, to care, and to serve others, she saw a reflection of Christ.
Every February seemed to mark an important chapter in their journey. Beginning in 2024, he would ask her the same question: "What if we get married this year?" Each time, her answer was lovingly but firmly, "No." Not because she doubted him, but because she believed they were not yet ready. He asked again in February 2025, and once more she answered no.
Then February 2026 arrived. This time, after much prayer, reflection, and seeking God's will, her answer changed.
She said, "Yes."
Soon afterward came the pamulong, followed by the pamalayi. Everything seemed to fall into place according to God's perfect timing. There was truly something special about February.
Another cherished part of their story is their nickname for one another: "Mars." Many assumed it came from the planet Mars. Others thought it was inspired by the playful Filipino terms "mares" or "kumares." The truth was much simpler and sweeter — it came from a Mars chocolate bar that she once gave him during a difficult season in college. It was a small gesture of comfort, but it became a symbol of encouragement, support, and affection that remained with them through the years.
Their relationship was not without challenges. There were moments of uncertainty, financial struggles, and difficult questions about the future. As missionaries, they often wondered how they would provide for a family and fulfill the responsibilities of marriage. There were countless tears and countless prayers. They understood that they were nothing without Him and desired to follow His leading above all else.
One particularly meaningful moment came shortly after they became officially engaged. During a season of uncertainty, Earl prayed earnestly and searched the Scriptures for guidance. The Holy Spirit led him to Deuteronomy chapters 8 through 11. As he shared those passages with her, both found comfort in God's promise to provide for His children as they faithfully remember and trust Him. Through God's Word, they were reminded that His presence is the greatest blessing they could ever receive.
Their decision to marry was not based on the length of their relationship, outside pressure, or worldly expectations. Instead, it came after prayerful study, godly counsel, and a growing conviction that God Himself was leading them forward. The writings found in Adventist Home, Letters to Young Lovers, and I Love You provided valuable guidance. They sought counsel from spiritual mentors, received the blessing of their parents and siblings, and carefully studied God's Word together.
Through it all, they learned patience, understanding, acceptance, honesty, trust, and grace. Neither of them is perfect. Yet over the past three years, God has used every experience — both joyful and difficult — to prepare them for this new chapter.
Today, they desire a wedding that is simple yet meaningful, focused not on grandeur but on what truly matters. More than celebrating a marriage, they hope to begin a ministry together — a home that honors God, blesses others, and reflects His love.
Their journey has often felt like a roller coaster ride filled with unexpected turns, steep climbs, and moments of uncertainty. Yet they take comfort in knowing that the One who designed the ride has never left their side.
From the very beginning, God saw the path ahead. And through every step, He faithfully guided them home to each other.
